Maori legend animation
The legend of Haumapuhia comes to life on Massey University’s broadcast for off-campus students on Two tomorrow at 10 a.m. A Lecturer in Maori studies, Tai Black, narrates the legend, which tells in animation of the creation of Lake Waikaremoana — “the sea of rippling waters.”
Maori legends are an excellent resource for Maori language teaching, Mr Black says. Legends are also important in that they pass on tribal histories. The visualisation of the legend of Haumapuhia will be of intense interest to the people of the Lake Waikaremoana region, Mr Black says.
