One man found in bush

PA Rotorua Searchers have found Mr Kelly Katene, who had been missing in rugged bush in the Mamaku Range since Thursday.

An ambulance took Mr Katene, aged 35, from search headquarters to Rotorua Hospital yesterday morning suffering from hypothermia.

Mr Katene had been found soon after 10 a.m. yesterday.

The search for another missing man, Mr Stan Phillips, aged 60, was continuing. Ninety searchers were combing a 50ha area earlier yesterday in a shoulder-to-shoulder search for Mr Phillips, who disappeared last Wednesday.

Mr Katene went missing on Thursday after joining the search for Mr Phillips. Searchers believe Mr Phillips, who was not familiar with the area, has been leaving “clues”. On Saturday afternoon they found his hat and on Sunday discovered his jacket and a plastic bag containing piko piko, which the men had been collecting.

As a result of these discoveries, search organisers are concentrating on a 50ha section of bush.
