Kaiapoi looks at City
The Kaiapoi Borough Council will decide on August 24 whether it will be part of a greater Christchurch City Council. At a meeting last evening several councillors believed they needed more time to consider the proposal. However, the Mayor,
Hector McAllister, said the town would gain greater benefit from joining Christchurch City. Kaiapoi could gain a works depot. Christchurch could also absorb the Kaiapoi M.E.D. The only disadvantage would be that Kaiapoi would have only four re-
presentatives, he said. The only other real option now left for the council is to amalgamate with Rangiora District, Eyre County and Oxford County councils. The council’s preferred option is to retain the status quo within slightly enlarged boundaries.
