Zoo recruiting panda support
PA Auckland The Auckland Zoo is recruiting a team of 25 people to control the huge crowds expected for the panda exhibition this year. The zoo is advertising for panda staff for the October to January exhibition. No previous experience with pandas is required. The team will not work direct with the animals but be responsible for general ground care, crowd control and car-
parking. The two pandas visiting from China will be cared for by Auckland’s zoo-
keepers, assisted by a Chinese keeper, veterinarian and interpreter who will travel with the animals. The zoo is gearing up for an expected 250,000 to 300,000 visitors during the exhibition. The zoo’s administration officer, Ms Venus Tamopo, said the panda staff must be reliable and experienced in dealing with the public. They would be required to assist with the large number of school visits expected.
Staff will work five days on, two off, the only guaranteed day off being Christmas Day.
