Nurses oppose smoking
The Nurses’ Society is the latest organisation to add to growing opposition to smoking in enclosed public places. The society says that legislation should be imposed to restrict smoking in these areas. Its national director, Mr David Wills, said members of the society have shown universal support for the move.
“Controls on smoking in public places are necessary to protect the health and lives of non-smokers from the dangers of passive smoking,” he said. Mr Wills said that although local bodies have begun to deal with the dangers of smoking by formulating bylaws prohibiting it in some areas, national action by legislation and education is still ultimately desirable.
