Shy Mark to be freshened
Shy Mark, which took his record to two wins and three seconds, from five races, when he won the Hakataramea Handicap at the Kurow Trotting Club’s meeting yesterday, is to be freshened again during the next month.
“We’ve just taken our time with him. It’s harder in each grade so I’ll give him a bit more time before he races against the C2s,” said his Templeton trainer-reinsman, Neil Hamilton.
The four-year-old son of defunct stallion, Golden Fulla, and Shy Castle, finished best late from the third line to beat Amuri Rose and the favourite, Million Dollar Fella (handy outer) in a threeway finish. Shy Mark, the result of an Australian mating, was purchased by Hamilton and Paul Ayton (a former stablehand for Denis Nyhan) from Wayne Francis two seasons ago.
Shy Mark’s dam, Shy Castle, is an unraced daughter of Play Bill and Shy, whose dam is by U. Scott from Admiration, by Grattan Loyal from Bonny Logan.
Royal Summit, bred to make a two-year-old trotter, but which “paced from the day he was born,” finished best from the third line to wn the D.B. Otago Three-Year-Old Stakes yesterday. Raced by Graham Neill of Willowby, with his wife, Pam, Royal Summit is the first winner by the imported National Bloodstock stallion, Speedy Summit, a son of Speedy Crown.
He is from the Gerry Mir mare, Royal Nugget, which earlier left the placed trotter, Imperial Bachelor, and was a halfsister to Royal George (four pacing wins). Royal Summit scored by a length from Joy’s Girl, which trailed and ran on when in the clear.
