Curtins Farm to lease stallions

PA Wellington Three North American standardbred stallions have been secured to stand at stud in New Zealand.

The three have been leased bv Curtins Farm and after each breeding season in New Zealand will return to Pickwick Farms in North America to continue stud duties in the Northern Hemisphere breeding term. The stallions are Chairmanoftheboard, Happy Chatter II and Tabor Lobell, but none of them will stand at the Curtins Farm Stud at Reporoa (near Rotorua) where McKinzie Almahurst, Tricky Dick, Tuff Choice and the recently purchased Golden

Greek will be in residence this spring. Instead the three imports will go to the South Island. Chairmanoftheboard and Tabor Lobell will be located at Derek Dynes’ Tactile Lodge at Ashburton, while Happy Chatter II is bound for Clarrie and Dianne Woodward’s Raven’s Lodge at Edendale in Southland. Chairmanof th eboard won over SUSI million as a three-year-old when racing in the same age group as the incomparable Nihilator and is the second greatest stakes earner by the outstanding sire, Meadow Skipper.

A limited number of breeding rights to Chairmanoftheboard will be made available at $12,500

each, which will entitle the purchaser to one service a year for the remainder of the horse’s breeding career.

Tabor Lobell is a trotter which won nearly SUS6OO,OOO. He is one of the best performed sons of the top trotting stallion Speedy Crown and recorded the excellent time of 1:55.8 for a mile as a three-year-old. Happy Chatter 11, by Most Happy Fella, was an outstanding juvenile with a 1:54.2 mile among his nine wins.

One of his placings as a two-year-old was a close third in the SUSI.3M Woodrow Wilson Pace at the Meadowlands. He won just over $700,000 in his racing career.
