Coote wins rally title
NZPA-AAP Sydney The four-time Queensland champion, Murray Coote, yesterday clinched a cliffhanger national rally championship with a great win in the Esanda Finance Rally of Australia. Coote, aged 37, who started the two-day Can-berra-based rally on equal
points with the former champion, Greg Carr, led at every stage to take his first national title. He won by 1:23s from the Bridgestone driver, David Eadie, with Canberra’s Peter Clark third. All three placegetters competed in a Mazda 323 4 wheel drive, the vehicle that has dominated the title’s four rounds this
Coote, who mixes rallying with his membership of the crowd-thrilling Bridgestone Holden Precision Driving Team, controlled the event throughout.
After first taking Friday’s prologue that decided grid positions, he led at the end of all three race divisions.
