Lymds to train Le. Belvedere

PA Wellington A talented American galloper, Le Belvedere, has joined the Woodville stable of Jeff Lynds to be prepared for important Group races, including the $1 million DB Draught Classic at Ellerslie next February.

Le Belvedere has been an excellent performer in the United States and was bought by Waikato Stud principals, Gary Needham and Tim McHenry, for stud.

The five-year-old was originally to have stood at Carrington Stud in New South Wales and was subsequently advertised to stand at Waikato Stud in Matamata. However, he was put back into training three weeks ago. “He’s a lovely, strapping horse and obviously very classy,” Jeff Lynds said. “He’s a 1600-to-2000 metre horse and will be

set for the major autumn races.”

Le Belvedere has only had 17 races and has won five times, amassing $224,000 in stakes. Victories included the Group Two Inglewood Handicap as well as the Group Three Bay Meadows Derby. A winner in France before going to the United States, Le Belvedere is by the Mr Prospector horse, Miswaki, which was a Group One winning juvenile and has had 11 stakes winners from his first three crops. Lynds said he hoped the horse would be able to contest Group One events both in New Zealand and Australia.

The addition of Le Belvedere to the stable is some consolation to Lynds for the loss of the excellent stayer, Secret Seal, which is now in Australia.
