Journalists fluent in Maori sought
The “Te Karere” Maori-language news programme is urgently looking for more journalists fluent in the Maori language. They are needed because of the extra air time given to Maori language news in this week’s programme changes. In addition to the main “Te Karere” programme at 5.15, there are to be Maori headlines at midday, and ultimately at the end of “Eye Witness News.”
Because of the shortage of experienced presenters and reporters, the “Te Karere” headlines in “Eye Witness News” cannot be introduced immediately. TVNZ’s controller of news and current affairs, Paul Norris, says, “This delay is regrettable, but we really have no choice. Unfortunately there is a very real shortage of good Maori-speaking journalists.”
