W. Aust riot
NZPA-AAP Perth The Western Australian Government yesterday angrily accused sections of the Aboriginal community of deliberately inciting violence in Geraldton on Monday night, without doing anything positive to help the cause of their own people. The Premier, Peter Dowding, joined police and civic leaders in accusing “professional protesters” of inflaming emotions in the port city after the funeral of an Aboriginal, Edward Cameron, aged 23, who was found hanged in a police lock-up on July 8. More than 300 Aboriginals ran riot through the city’s main shopping street last Monday night, smashing scores of windows, damaging cars and badly damaging a hotel.
