Race relations and the economy will be the two key topics at the National Party’s annual conference, to be held at Rotorua during the first week-end of August. ■ The agenda and remits for the conference were released by National’s president, Mr Neville Young, yesterday. The conference would launch a new logo and a new image for the party, ■ . . . . -
backed by the substance of policy that would give National victory in 1990 and make it the stable Government for the next decade, he said. “We are establishing a political position that appeals to the cities,” Mr Young said. “We are promoting debate on issues such as childcare and superannuation to reach people the National Party has not contacted before.” Both Miss Richardson jer 7.
and Mr Winston Peters would be keynote speakers to the conference, The party’s secretarygeneral, Mr Max Bradford, said about 500 delegates would attend and there would be debate, some of it in closed meeting, on strategies and organisational matters. "Our party is in quite remarkable shape, in terms of membership and money, for a post-election
year,” he said. Mr Bradford contrasted the type of remit at the National conference with those set out for Labour’s annual conference a month later. “Labour’s remits show a very strong return to socialist preoccupations,” he said. “Ours are on up-to-date issues such as race relations, agriculture and manufacturing, superannuation and childcare, the economy and the place of women in society.” , ; - A
