Funds meeting today
Christchurch community organisation representatives will seek greater Government funding for community groups when they meet Cabinet Ministers in Wellington today. A Christchurch City councillor, Cr Clive Cotton, and the chairwoman of the District Council of Social Services, Mrs Rosemary Carr, will meet the Minister of Recreation and Sport, Mr Tapsell, and the Minister of Social Welfare, Dr Cullen.
Their trip to Wellington follows up a meeting last month of Christchurch community groups affected by the change to funding criteria for the Hillary Commission for Recreation and Sport. Many community groups no longer qualify for grants from the commission since it restricted its funding to recreation and sports. Organisations feared they would miss funding, as many were not eligible for Lottery Board or C.O.G.S. grants.
