Country music jamboree
An audience of 400 packed the Richmond Working Men’s Club last week-end for the annual Country Music Jamboree and Canterbury talent spot contest. The event was organised by the’ Christchurch Old Time Country Music
Association. A spokesman for the group, Mr Ivan Redmond, said it was the biggest crowd that had gathered for the event. “It was a pleasure to see so many country music followers. The association is going from strength to strength.” The special guest artist, Danny McGirr, was well received by the crowd.
Mr Redmond, who also compered the event, said that the standard of the 50 entries in the talent spot was high. The over-all winner was the Barross Duo.
Results were:— Female: Tracy Griggs 1, Addrian Harpur 2, Kathy Smith 3. Male: Graeme Prentice 1, Ted Yaxley 2, Ray Gibbs 3. Gospel: Barbara Lloyd 1, Addrian Harpur 2, Pat Papworth 3. Open: Barross Duo 1, Addrian Harpur 2, Natalie Bowen 3.
