Birdlings Flat

Sir, —The Wairewa County Council at its meeting on July 15 resolved to withdraw from any further involvement in the settling of boundary disputes and legalisation of land ownership within the area known as “Waikakahi Beach Settlement,” Birdlings Flat. In support of a District Scheme submission in May, 1987, a plan prepared by Mr N. Clark, of Babbage Partners, Ltd, was presented to the council with a proposal to establish sections legally. This initiative was supported by the Wairewa County Council and, together, an agreement from coowners was sought. The council has now exhausted all avenues open to it and, with the lack of agreement of the co-owners, has handed its information over to Babbage Partners. The proposed plan, as a "scheme plan,” was rejected and the land status is now back in the hands of the coowners to resolve. The Wairewa County Council acknowledges the co-operation and support of Babbage Partners, Ltd, and" especially Mr N. Clark. Any inference made in “The Press” (July 16) that the Wairewa County Council withdrew because of the actions of this company or Mr Clark was not factual. — Yours, etc., K. L. HARMER, County Clerk. July 18, 1988.
