Canterbury swimmers join squad
Four Canterbury swimmers are additions to a New Zealand squad which will compete in the Australian winter national championships in the Warringah pool in Sydney on August 11-13. New Zealand’s Olympic swimming squad, and eight other swimmers from around the country will , compete at the Aus-
tralian championships. Four of the extra eight swimmers come from Christchurch clubs. Linda Robinson, Phillippa Langreil and Nicola West, all of Wharenui club, join with Anna Simcic (Avon Aquatics) for Canterbury.
The four others are Amelia McQueen (Otago),
Richard Tapper (Auckland), John Munroe (Auckland) and Peter Doig (Wellington). Although the Olympic swimming , squad has already been named, if any , of the other swimmers perform notable times ; they may have a chance ? to join the team for Seoul. According to the Olym-
f I pic selection committee, swimmers have until the end of next month to impress and be in with a chance for the squad. The week-end after the Australian nationals, New Zealand will hold its winter championships in Blenheim and the entire squad should be back in the country for that event.
