Funds granted for community welfare
A Christchurch community group formed to monitor the work of the Social Welfare Department has been allocated $64,500 for funding community welfare initatives.
The funding for the district executive committee was allocated by the Social Welfare Commission from the $162,000 provided by the Government for five South Island districts, said the chairwoman, Mrs Diane Wynn-
Williams.
The committee recently approved two applications, one for $BOO for the Papanui recreation for youth programme and $2OOO for the Christian Family Movement solo parents’ support group. The grants were for small-scale community developments and projects. Applicants had to have an identifiable need in the community, Mrs WynnWilliams said.
