Wairio J.C. to race at Riverton
Special correspondent Invercargill
The Wairio Jockey Club will race at Riverton on December 19. The switch to Riverton, because of proposed work on the course proper at Ascot Park at that time, was announced by John Carran, president of the Wairio club. The switch to Riverton, he said, was subject to suitable arrangements being agreed to by the Riverton Racing Club.
The decision to seek Riverton as an alternative venue was reached at a committee meeting of the Wairio Jockey Club on Monday evening. The Southland Racing Club earlier announced that its January 7 meeting would be switched from Ascot Park to Riverton.
The popular Riverton course will be the venue for five fully-fledged race meetings next season, plus the three-day Riverton Easter carnival.
