Aotearoa
Sir, —The European name for this country may be New Zealand but, being born and bred in the South Pacific, I prefer the local name, Aotearoa. I find the R.S.A. preference for doubleDutch titles and European culture an insidious and repugnant reminder of the genocidal history of the British Empire. The R.S.A. should wake up. We live in the South Pacific, not Europe The days of the British Empire are history. — Yours, etc., HAIKAI TANE. July 12, 1988.
