Ethnic violence in Pakistan
NZPA-Reuter Karachi Ethnic violence has swept southern Pakistan where at least five people died in riots on Sunday and a curfew was imposed on Hyderabad in the volatile Sind province. Four people were killed and 20 injured in Hyderabad; one policeman was killed and two were critically wounded in the provincial capital, Karachi, the Government said. Troops were called in and a curfew imposed as clashes between rival ethnic groups occurred after unknown gunmen killed a municipal councillor and wounded Hyderabad’s mayor, Aftab Ahmad Sheikh.
