Redundancy talks continue
By
industrial reporter Redundancy negotiations between Waitaki International, Ltd, and site unions representing workers at both Islington and Burnside (Dunedin) continues today. Both the public affairs manager of Waitaki, Mr John Bayley, and the national secretary of the New Zealand Meat Workers’ Union, Mr Jack
Scott, declined to comment on progress. The regional manager for Waitaki at Islington, Mr Geoff Stobie, said workers at the Islington site were still on strike and picketing the works. "But the product is still on site and we have no intention of moving it,” he said. It is believed about $2O million worth of meat and related products are still being stored at the plants.
