British inflation is set to rise temporarily above 6 per cent in early 1989, aided by a further half or one point rise in clearing bank base lending rates from 10 per cent, the Independent Treasury Economic Modelling (“Item”) Club of economists said. Vetting threat Vetting of Part A takeover offers before they hit the market would be dropped under the Federal Government’s planned new securities laws, according to the National Companies and Securities Commission. NCSC chairman, Mr Henry Bosch, said the draft legislation now before Federal Parliament “virtually eliminates” the pre-vetting of Part A takeover offers. The proposed laws would not have allowed the NCSC to play the role it had taken in the bid by Bond Corporation Holdings for the Bell Group.
