Talented filly to resume at Trentham
PA Wellington The talented filly, Martelomeo, is expected to resume racing in the $20,000 Onslow Handicap (1400 m at Trentham on Saturday. The Marscay three-year-old has been off the scene since finishing fourth in the Cuddle Stakes (1600 m at Trentham in May. She was then being prepared by Roydon Bergerson at Riccarton, but subsequently spelled on owner Arthur Williams’ Otaki property. She is currently under the care of his private trainer, Jim Pankhurst, and won a 1000-metre open trial at Otaki last Thursday. Williams said Martelomeo has strengthened considerably since last racing and is making excellent progress in her new campaign. All going well, she will follow Saturday’s race with a run in the $50,000 Winter Cup (1600 m at Riccarton next month.
