Butchery of trees

Sir, —The photograph used by Mike Lusty in the paper today should have been on the front page, centre! I get about the city on a bike and it certainly is the best way to see the terrible mess that people make of their trees and shrubs. As Mike mentioned; silver birches seem to come in for the most butchery, and I cannot fathom the reason. There seems to be a "short back and sides” mentality prevalent in our country. I wish people would get the right advice before starting up those confounded chainsaws.—Yours, etc.,

PATRICIA CAMERON. July 8, 1988.
