Fishing talks

PA Wellington Representatives of the fishing industry and Government said they had “a frank exchange of views” but apparently made little progress when they met at Parliament yesterday. The president of the Fishing Industry Association, Mr David Anderson, said meetings would be held with fishing industry members throughout the

country, starting tomorrow. It would be up to those members to decide what action should be taken to support their claims.

Mr Anderson said yesterday’s meeting had left the industry with a better understanding of the Government’s position in dealing with Maoridom. But fishermen really wanted permanency of their quotas.
