Now is the time to buy

The saying that there has never been a better time to buy a house is definitely true at present, says Mr Peter Cook, the national president of the Real Estate Institute. There has been a 15 per cent increase in sales for April and May this year since interest rates fell.

New Zealand is the only country where market prices have not gone mad since the share market crash, making the purchase of property a very attractive option. It proves

that property is still the best investment; the 10.9 per cent increase in value from May, 1987 until May, 1988, puts the return on investment ahead of inflation, Mr Cook said. When the direction of the economy becomes clearer and public confidence returns, there is every prospect that values will increase significantly, he said.

“I have confidence in the strength of the market and my advice is for people to get in and buy now,” he said.
