New Linen Cupboard

The Linen Cupboard opened a second shop in Merivale Mall yesterday. Both shops have the same name and sell specialised linen, says the owner, Mrs Margaret George. The new shop, in the premises formerly occupied by a toy shop, is probably the only one of its type in Christchurch and the South Island. Many products are exclusive to The Linen Cupboard. It has 1000 square feet of space, which is ten times bigger than the small shop. From the Linen Cupboard you can buy a total interior for a bedroom, dining room and pathroom.

Many of the lines were already being sold in the smaller shop; many more can be stocked and displayed in the larger shop.

Beds and bases are one new line. These include attractive lacquered furniture from Howard Smith and a new release of

unusually styled brass beds from Australia. One brand of mattresses and bases is Slumbertime Ther-a-pedic. The Linen Cupboard stocks major brands of bed linen — Sheridan, Martex, Springmaid, Fieldcrest, Actil, Laura Ashley, Greys and Descampes.

There is a full range of attractive plain dyed sheets and duvet covers from Greys. Greys valances, pillowcases, flat and fitted sheets and new Euro pillowcases are available too.

Cannon sheets have been on the market for only two months. They are plain dyed, the quality is special and at an affordable price, Mrs George says. She has a full range of the French Descampes linen with the latest designs from France in patterned duvet covers, pillowcases, and flat sheets.

For that very special bedroom there is the Peter Reed range in 100 per cent Egyptian cotton with duvet covers, flat and fitted sheets in pastels. To go inside the beautiful duvet covers you can choose from Greys feather and down products or Cloud 9 synthetic liners and pillows. Both petticoat and kid-ney-shaped tables are available in kitset form. You can buy tablecloths for them too.

A new staff member, Judith Brown, has joined The Linen Cupboard. Both she and Margaret George have experience in design and colour co-ordination. They can help customers choose and co-ordinate colours and their service extends to visiting homes to give advice. Table lamps and wall prints complete the bedroom decor. Matching drapes will be offered in the future.

For the bathroom, Cannon’s Royal Classic is one of the top American labels in towels. The range includes thick, luxurious bath towels, bath sheets, guest towels and bath mats, all displayed in attractive shelving.

In hot demand at The Linen Cupboard are the towelling robes made out of these towels. They are made to order in any of the 24 colours. The dining room products will help create a truly elegant setting. The range of printed tablecloths is extensive and will fit tables of every shape. Robert Green is a well-known Australian range that has plain dyed matching tablecloths and napkins. There are Jill Tuck chintz placemats with matching napkins and Petalia linen placemats and napkins and many napkin rings. Placemats can be made to order.
