Television House will open in September

Television New Zealand’s new Christchurch head quarters will open on September 16. The 12-storey building in Worcester Street will house most of TVNZ’s 230 Christchurch staff.

It will provide a far more centralised operation, as it backs on to the present studios in Gloucester Street and will be connected with that building by a covered walkway. At present, TVNZ’s sales and marketing, news, administration and production offices occupy space in the Manchester

Unity building in Manchester Street. They will occupy the lower five floors of Television House, the rest being sub-let. Television Christchurch’s manager, Mr Stephen McElrea, said that he was excited at what the new building would mean to staff, the viewers and the South Island business ityTelevision New Zealand would re-equip with new Beta SP-format cameras and recording equipment, and establish modern new post-production facilities

available to service outside clients through the new TVNZ Video Unit, specialising in training and promotional videos. While Television House would house administrative offices, they would have the capacity to become instant studios through the new lightweight cameras. News reports could be presented live from the newsroom, while the new late-night teen-age show, “Friday Nite,” hosted by Alistair Kincaid, would originate direct from Television House, Mr McElrea said.
