Toll charges
Sir,—Can anybody in Telecom' please explain why it costs $3.76 for a minute facsimile message to Auckland and yet the same message costs only $3 to send to the United Kingdom (or for that matter to Sierra Leone)? — Yours, etc., DENIS J. BRITTENDEN. June 1, 1988.
[The district manager of Telecom, Mr B. W. Finn, replies: "Facsimile messages are charged at toll rates. Toll charges for international calls are based on a one minute minimum; inland toll calls are on a three minute minimum — hence the prices quoted are for differing minimum periods. A four-minute fax to the United Kingdom would cost $l2; to Auckland, $5.01. Telecom is at present reviewing all charges.”]
