Victim’s memory impaired
PA Auckland A speech therapist is working with the former champion boxer, Eddie Smith, as he recovers in hospital from a vicious attack that left him unconscious. The police do not know when they will be able to speak to Mr Smith, aged 55, and have so far drawn a blank in their hunt for the car used by his assailants in a Glen Innes street. The attackers are thought to have used a motor mower crankshaft to bludgeon Mr Smith about 12.30 a.m. on June 4. The four attackers left the scene in a Chrysler Valiant car, probably a 1966 model, in rough condition with brown or black panel paint. The champion boxer, Lance Revill, visiting Mr Smith said he could speak all right but had memory problems.
