‘Madame Cyn’ bids for Parliament
NZPA-PA London Britain’s most famous madame, Mrs Cynthia Payne, is to stand for Parliament in a by-elec-tion later this year. If she gets elected the first thing she will do is campaign for the legislation of brothels, because she believes British men have nowhere to go when they feel
frustrated. She is to stand in the forthcoming Kensington by-election for the Rainbow Alliance, which describes itself as an idealistic, futuristic party which wants to see peace and harmony in the world. The party’s cofounder, Mr George Weiss, said: “I ' approached her after read-
ing that she was interested in becoming an M.P. “She is the ideal candidate because, unlike many people involved in politics, she is an honest person, unhypocritical and with something to say.” Mrs Payne was jailed for 18 months in the “luncheon voucher”
brothel case in 1980 and last year was cleared of running a brothel at her home in south London. “Madame Cyn,” as she became known during her first trial, will have to compete against seven other candidates in the by-election which was caused by the death of a Conservative member of Parliament, Sir Brandon Rhys Williams.
