Identification success

The identification service for antiques held at the Canterbury Museum last week-end was so successful it might become an annual event, said the museum’s director, Mr Michael Trotter, yesterday. In his report to yesterday’s trust board meeting, Mr Trotter said the weekend, which included a number of games and competitions with a feathers theme, was one of the highlights of the museum year. On both days of the week-end members of the Canterbury Antique Collectors’ Club and museum

staff provided an identification service for unidentified antique objects (U.A.O.s). The U.A.O. service was organised by Mrs Teresa Mclntyre with the curator of Canterbury history at the museum, Ms Jennifer Queree to raise funds for the museum’s restoration fund. A charge of $1 was made for each item identified and about $6OO was raised. Museum Day activities on Sundday raised about $4OO, Mr Trotter said. “In terms of boosting our public image we took a big step forward.”
