Dilemma for Waitemata
PA Auckland Waitemata will default its national league basketball game against Canterbury unless it has the cash to get to Christchurch. The Waitemata president, Bill Foreman, said the team was thousands of dollars in debt and could no longer afford to play in the Countrywide league. Although Waitemata, fifth in the league, has been tipped as a semi-final candidate, it has been unable to attract sponsorship and cannot pay its way to the vital Canterbury clash in Christchurch on July 9.
