Rover produces fastest model
Although no Vitesse versions of the fastback Rover 800 were evident amid the pre-launch stock at the Rover Group’s Cowley plant, the company has pulled a fast one and produced an 800 Vitesse as successor to the earlier SDI Vitesse.
It is said to be good for at least 225km/h. This would make it the fast-est-ever production Rover.
The fastback is said to have a drag factor of 0.30, compared with the. Vitesse SDl’s 0.32,’ because of the new model’s rear spoiler and side skirts. These aerodynamic aids must be effective, for the 800 Vitesse wears wider 205/ 60VR 15 tyres.
Don’t be surprised to see examples of the new Rover fastback, if not the Vitesse, in local dealers’ showrooms before the year gets much, older.
