Douglas chasing second quinella

Special correspondent Wellington Sheryl Douglas, a Tauherenikau trainer, had an exceptional day at Awapuni 12 months ago and tomorrow at the Manawatu Racing Club’s Meeting gets a chance for a second quinella in the $15,000 Lion Brown Manawatu Steeplechase (4000 m The little mare, Rami, was first and Zeb second in the race last year and as it happens the two are the only horses from last year’s race running again tomorrow. Rarni is seven and Zeb eight and while Rami’s confidence fell away a little at the end of her last campaign, the mare has had a long and steady build-up to fit her for the main jumping races. Zeb is also a jumper of ability and both contested the Lion Brown Wanganui Steeplechase at their last start. Rgrni was second and Zeß-'eighth.

However, the first eight were reasonably close together at the finish and a bad leap late in the contest prevented Zeb from getting any closer. Both will be big chances tomorrow. So will Durham Lad. He won the Wanganui Steeplechase impressively A
