PA Wellington The Government has given permission to the c Iranian Government to open an embassy in New Zealand. The Associate Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms Fran Wilde, said the diplomatic mission would open in Wellington. At present Iran is represented in New Zealand by an ambassador based in Canberra, Australia. Ms Wilde said an Iranian delegation would arrive in Wellington this week to start making arrangements for the establishment of the embassy. Iran is one of New Zealand’s largest customers for sheepmeat, and currently buys almost a third of the country’s annual sheepmeat production. New Zealand opened an embassy in Teheran, Iran, in 1977.
