Soap star visiting
The Australian actor, Mark Ferguson, who is visiting Christchurch for the first time this weekend to co-ordinate and coach players competing in the national final of the Theatresports competition to be held at the James Hay Theatre tomorrow evening.
Ferguson is probably best known to New Zealand television viewers as Paul Sheppard, the illicit lover of Angela Hamilton in the Australian soap opera, “Sons and Daughters.”
He left the series more than a year ago in Australia but as New Zealand screenings are behind Australia, has only recently left New Zealand screens. Devotees of the New Zealand soap opera, “Gloss,” will remember Ferguson’s appearances in the later episodes of the last series playing the part of Giles Mitcaif, the slimy offsider of Aaron Sloan. He will appear as Mitcaif in the
new series of the programme, to screen soon. Ferguson, aged 27, said he loved New Zealand and hoped to spend more time here. As well as working on “Gloss” in Auckland, he would appear in Telethon in Dunedin and teach theatre at the Auckland Performing Arts Centre. He also hoped to direct while in New Zealand. Two Christchurch teams will compete in the Theatresports national final tomorrow evening. The Puawai team of the Polynesian Performing Arts Trust and the Handy Andies team of St Andrew’s College old boys are among the seven teams in the final.
