Two worlds collide

NZPA-Reuter Woburn, England Sandy Lyle and fellow-Briton, Tony Charnley, had little in common untl yesterday when they shared the spotlight at the start of the British Masters golf championship. Lyle’s caddy earns a nice, tidy living on his percentage of his master’s massive earnings. Charnley’s caddy is his wife. Lyle, the globetrotting United States Masters champion, goes first class and lives in a plush mansion beside Wentworth golf course near London. Charnley, who has never won anything, travels the European circuit in a caravan. But their two worlds came together here when they stood one-two after the first round of the $NZ672,500 Masters after respective rounds of 66 and 67, six and five under par.
