M.P.s to contest Labour Party post
Political reporter./ Three members of Parliament, including a Cabinet Minister, are among the six challengers for Mr Rex Jones’ post as president of the Labour Party. The six challengers include tne member of Parliament for Sydenham, Mr Jim Anderton, a past party president; and the Minister of Housing, Ms Clark. , ■ The third contender from the party's Parliamentary wing is the member for Gisborne, Mr Alan Wallbank. The three others seeking the party’s top post are the senior
vice-president, Ms Ruth Dyson; Mr Neville Taylor, a • party executive member of Wellington; and Mr Peter Beyer, a former regional organiser, of Auckland. Nominations for the post closed last month. The incumbent president, Mr Jones, completes the field. Voting will not take place until the annual conference later this year. By voting day it is likely that the field of seven will be whittled down as those,who-real-ise they have no chance, and . those who stood in case Mr Jones decided against a. second term, withdraw.
