Man to ‘serve God’ in jail

PA Auckland A Glenfield man who abducted and raped a 15-year-old hitchhiker told a High Court judge yesterday he would “serve God in prison.” Christopher Graham Watson, aged 28, was found guilty after a jury trial at Auckland on six charges relating to the incident on October 18 last year. Mr Justice Tompkins jailed him for three years on an attempted rape charge and each of three counts of sexual violation

by unlawful sexual connection and five years on a rape charge, to be served concurrently. Before he was sentenced, Watson, a former secondary school teacher and computer worker, told , the judge he would make use of his time in prison by offering his work skills to others who needed them. “I will go there with a mission. I do feel responsible for my actions that night and I am prepared to accept the punishment that goes with it,” he said.
