Conley collects hat-trick
Three goals by the striker, Vaughan Conley, enabled Bumdale to complete a 5-0 victory over Oamaru in a southern league soccer match at English Park yesterday. Bumdale scored after just two minutes from a comer by Andrew McDermott which was controlled first by Jimmy Small who headed to Conley who slotted the ball home from close range. Conley overcame his height disadvantage and was unlucky not to score in the thirty-sixth minute after a melee in front of goals. Conley did not have to wait long though — 4 minutes later a comer taken by Richard Page found him on the far post and after a brief
scramble the ball was fired to the back of the Oamaru net The next goal came in the second minute of the second half when Andrew McDermott unleashed a beautiful, floated cross which had everyone beaten including Robbie Duncan, the Oamaru keeper.
In the fifty-third minute it was McDermott and Conley again — McDermott with a 25m shot which deflected off Conley to give him his hattrick.
The last goal came in the thirty-fourth minute of the second half when a through ball from Peter Ross found Andy Waites which slotted it home giving the goal-keeper no chance.
