‘Armed hold-up’ called off

PA Wellington The highlight if of a seminar on hotel security in Wellington yesterday was to have (been a mock armed hold-up,! but the drama had to be cancelled partly for fear someone ■ might have a heart attack.

A security expert, Mr Trevor Morley, of Wellington, ! said there had

been a case where someone had suffered a heart attack as a result of such a stunt. Police banned the exercise, which was to have been part of a seminar organised by the hotel and Catering industry training board. A Wellington crime prevention officer, Mr Gordon Grantham, said the exercise was

banned because of fears someone might think it real and call the police, tying up valuable staff.

In the last week two hotels, one in Auckland and one in Lower Hutt, have been raided by criminals. The Lower Hutt hotel was burgled and the Auckland hotel lost about $BB,OOO after a hold-up by a man with a stun gun.
