The remit comes against a background of calls from Young
Nationals for the party to change its policy oh visits to New Zealand by vessels carrying nuclear weapons.
i The Young Nationals' policy spokesman, Mr Nick Smith, said !yesteridayj "It is timely that the National Party should reconsider its policy. A 'clear message came from the I electorate in the 1987
General Election that nuclear weapons, must remain out of New Zealand, even at the cost of offending our most valued allies.
“National must change its policy and move the foreign policy debate on to whether New Zealand should be part of the nonaligned or ■ Western world.”
