A group of farm foresters who i brought together several physicallyfit intellectually-disabled i people to form a; contract- ! ing business have won the |pBB Ministry of Forestry award for innovation. | The group [of farm foresters and pthelr professional people! set up the Venture in New Plymouth in 1985. ; ! I Atawhai Industries Agroforestry has! since established a (clientele of over 70 landowners in the region. It employs up to Aine people, (and by j purchasing its oxyn equipment has become an independent self-contained contracting unit. | I Work done by the group (ranges from normal business required jn, Pinus radiata . plantations, to (work with j alternative Species such -las |eucalypts land cypresses, alnd specific projects [involving plantings for (shelter, soil protection and amenities.
