Govt names airport directors

A former manager of Christchurch Airport and a Christchurch businessman are the Government’s j two appointees to the board of the new Christchurch Airport. The two new directors are Mr Ivan Jamieson, who was the Christchurch City Council’s airport manager from 1958 to 1975, and Dr Robin Mann, general manager of G. L. Bowron and Company, Ltd. •
Their appointments were confirmed yesterday by the office of the Minister of [ Civil Aviation, Mr Jeffries.
The [Government delay in naming its two representatiyes had meant the board could not be incorporated. It will officially take over .the running of Christchurch Airport from April 1. Because the: City Council had disbanded its airport committee at the beginning of this month in anticipation of the board’s incorporation, it has effectively been running -the airport since then. The.: board’s chairman,
Mr ! Peter Leeming, wasted no time yesterday in holding a meeting with those directors who were available. The other three directors; are the Christchurch City! Council representatives, Sir Hamish Hay! and Crs John Burn and Vicki Buck. I
Mr Jamieson, aged 67, is deputy chairman of the Air : Services Licensing Authority, the tourisiri representative on | the National Parks [ and Reserves Authority arid a member of : the Tourism Liaison Group. I He was a fighter pilot in the Fleet Air Arm during World War 11, and! has beeri an air traffic [controller at I Christchurch Airport and manager: of the airport from 1958 to 1975.
He is also chairman of the Canterbury Regional Development Corporation. Dr Mann, aged 52, is general manager of G. L. Bowron and Company, a big [tannery. He is i also general mariager of tanning i for Waitaki International.
