These included the removal of any limits on the number of “entltllements” held by Individual producers, and also the lifting of restrictions oh the transfer of "entitlements” between producers. An entitlement is a quantitative restriction on the number of birds a producer may farm. At the same time, the Government announced that the system of controlling production through the entitlement scheme should be reviewed In 1988. Since then the Government has also announced a comprehensive review of a large number Of statutory bodies, including the New Zealand Poultry Board. In accordance with the Government'sjwishes, the Department of Trade and Industry invites submissions from any interested party on: (a) the effects of the deregulation; from'April 1, 1986, of thqegglnclustry.on the supply, price and quality of eggs available to the public. (b) the mechanisms and the economic ( effects of the ' current entitlement scheme, as a means of operating: statutory production controls. (c) the need for the continuaition'of statutory controls on the production of eggs In the national Interest.
