Car imports
Sir, —A conservative value for the used cars standing on each dealer’s forecourt comes to $250,000. Multiply this figure by the 100 car yards around Christchurch, and we come to S2SM. It would be safe to multiply this again by another 100, for the car . yards right around the country, I and we arrive at $2.58. No i wonder Mr Douglas and his ' cohorts, seem unconcerned about a deficit of about this figure when we .can afford to keep perfectly serviceable cars of this capital value standing unused! Yet, here we are importing more used cars from Japan, and using up those valuable oversea? funds. How silly can we get? — Yours, etc B. R. WALKER. March 18, 1988.
