Frigate tenders

The Ministry of Defence yesterday confirmed that two Canter-; bury firms will be among the seven companies tend; ering for the refit of the frigate H.M.N.Z.S. South; land. r I | After the reversal of ;a previous Ministry decision not to allow C.W.F.I Kamil; ton, Ltd, and Sinclair Mel; bourne, Ltd, tn tender for the $4O million project; both firms will now be invited to submit tenders for one of the biggest defence contracts opened to civilian companies. Three New Zealand and four overseas companies will now compete for the big refit-project. The companies are C.W.F. Hamilton; Sinclair; Melbourne; William Cable, Ltd, of Wellington; the Cockatoo Dockyard, Sydney; the Devonport Royal Dockyard, Ply; mouth; Scotland’s Rosytti Royal Dockyard; and the Tyne Ship Repairers. The name of the successful tenderer is expected to be announced by the end of July. i
