Kiwi eases
PA Wellington The New Zealand dollar eased in quiet trading (yesterday, but remains caught, in the tight band 1 it has been in since late February. ’ The! kiwi dollar closed at U566.73/83C against its open! of U567.00/10c and Wednesday’s close of U566.80/87C. It ranged between : U567.08c and U566.63C. Ttie Reserve Bank trade-weighted index eased to 66.2 at 3 p.m. against its 9 a.m. fix of 66.3. | In Sydney the Australian dollar finished at U573.45/50C, its highest since September. It closed at $NZ1.0995, compared with| ( 5NZ1.0940 on
Wednesday. In New York the U.S. dollar firmed slightly against most major currencies on : Wednesday, (early yesterday, N.Z. time), but traders remained cautious in vance of new trade data today. The January trade figures are expected to show a small increase in the monthly trade deficit. In New York, the dollar traded at 127.455 yen, up from 127.375 late on Tuesday. Other late rates, with Wednesday’s late rates in parentheses, included: 1.67395 Deutsche marks (1.66985); 1.3854 Swiss franks (1.3805);. sCan 1.2535 ($Can1.25385); 5.6894 French francs (5.6660).
