NZPA Reuter Rome President Francesco Cossiga has asked the Christian Democrat leader. Giriaco De Mita, to trv to form Italy's fortv-eighth Government since World War Two. Presidential officials announced. Mr Cossiga called in Mr De Mita, aged 60. after
three days of consultations with political leaders on how to overcome the crisis caused by the resignation last Friday of the Christian Democrat Prime Minister. Giovanni Goria. The officials said Mr De Mita had accepted the mandate with reserve, a normal formula which al-
lows him to give up if he ; is unable to form a viable * Government. Mr Goria. who was beset by problems during his eight months in power, i stepped down because of a dispute with the Socialists. the second largest * party in his five-party i coalition, over nuclearpower policy.
